Tuition assistance information

Continuing Education students taking credit courses (CEND/nonmatriculated)

Loans—The ACCESS Centers have information on several credit based private loan companies. It is best if you make an appointment with the Coordinator of Student Services or a Counselor prior to applying for a credit based loan to ensure that you are applying for the right type of loan and amount of money you need for tuition and related expenses. Credit based private loans are different from the loans matriculated students receive and the financial aid office on campus does not certify loans for Continuing Education students.

Grants—If you are employed by a company in Delaware that contributes to the Delaware Blue Collar Training Fund program, you can apply for the Governor's Workforce Development Grant as long as you are part-time and meet other eligibility requirements.

Scholarships—Professional and Continuing Studies has several scholarship opportunities available for partial or full funding with different qualifying criteria as listed below. (The funding is limited and varies from year to year). Apply by completing the ACCESS Center's scholarship application. Applicant criteria include:

  • Student who has had a break in their education (typically 5 years)
  • Student who is usually part-time
  • Student is in a certificate program, is taking class through Continuing Education or is a matriculated undergraduate
  • Student is working towards a major or certificate that results in upgrading current employment or enables employment
  • Student has substantial financial need
  • Student is in good academic standing
  • Student can be male or female depending on the scholarship
  • Student can be returning for a second degree if prerequisite courses are necessary

In addition, the AARP Foundation Women's Scholarship Program provides a yearly scholarship opportunity for women age 40 and over who demonstrate financial need and submit a proposal for enrollment in a post-secondary school or training program within 6 months of the scholarship award date.

Part-time matriculated students (admitted to a degree program)

Part-time matriculated students who are registered for 6 or more credit hours are eligible to apply for all federal and state need-based financial aid programs. Details are available through the University of Delaware Financial Aid Office.

Incentive ScholarshipsThis scholarship is for students in selected undergraduate degree programs in the evening or at a distance. It underwrites one-half the tuition costs for both the first six and the last 6 credits taken by part-time matriculated degree seeking students who are admitted. It is for students who do not receive tuition benefits or reimbursement from an employer and it can't be used for site rate tuition courses. Classes are offered in Newark, on the Wilmington campus and online. The degrees that qualify through distance learning are the AA (Associates in Art) Online, Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management BS Online, and Nursing, RN to BSN Online. Other degrees are the BA in Chemistry, Computer and Information Sciences and Criminal Justice, the BS in Engineering Technology, and the BA in English, History, Psychology, Sociology and Women's Studies. The qualifications for this scholarship require a 2.0 GPA for courses taken previously, be newly admitted to one of the degrees listed, complete an application, register during your first semester after admission for evening or online courses related to your degree program, and verify that you do not receive tuition reimbursement benefits or other grants. Apply by completing the ACCESS Center's scholarship application.
