Jeanne
Lorenson, M.A., Math Department Chair, Stone Ridge
School of the Sacred Heart, Bethesda, MD
Jeanne
Lorenson teaches AP Statistics and is the mathematics department
chair at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda,
MD. She is presently a table leader for the AP Statistics
examination and has been a reader since the first exam in
1997. A College Board approved consultant, she also has been
a presenter at an American Statistical Association meeting
in Baltimore. Previously Ms. Lorenson was a resource teacher
for the Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland, where
she taught AP Statistics and was a developer of the county’s
AP Statistics curriculum and semester exam, as well as being
a trainer of teachers for the system.
Course
description
This course
provides an overview of a statistics curriculum, strategies
for teaching an AP course in statistics, and review of examination
preparation. Content topics include
- Univariate
data sets and bivariate data
- Linearization
probability simulations
- Sampling
- Experimental
design
- Inference
- Type
I and type II errors
In addition
to the content review, time is spent on studying the AP
examinations. Teaching strategies, sample projects, and techniques
to
prepare the students to take the AP examination are covered
in depth.
