Course
description
The course
will cover four major areas: content, the Examination,
teaching strategies, and unit planning. All major areas of
content
required on the AP exam will be discussed as well as best
practices
associated with teaching these areas. Past samples of the
AP exam,
multiple choice and free-response, will be examined in order
to
understand the level of skills needed for students to successfully
pass
the exam. An examination of textbooks and supplemental text
selection
will be explored. An evaluation of teaching materials for
the texts will
also be undertaken. Resources available on the Web, especially
of
organizations dedicated to the study of government, will be
reviewed
with the goal of integrating those resources through technology.
The AP
Audit process will be discussed relating to what is necessary
for a
successful submission of a planned course of study. Participants
will
also work on unit planning for the course. Samples of tests,
readings,
AP Special Focus lessons, and projects will be offered.
