  Welcome

The Socially Responsible Apparel Business certificate program presents a very exciting set of graduate courses about current and potential social responsibility issues in the apparel industry.

One of the most exciting parts of the project is the potential for students from many different universities and industry professionals to participate in online discussions about social responsibility issues. The course professors have many years of teaching and research experience in the apparel field, specifically focused on the apparel industry and social responsibility. The case studies, video clips of expert interviews, and compelling readings will form the foundation for lively discussions and analysis of the issues and potential action steps toward more widespread social responsibility practices.

Take a look at the course offerings. We divided the content into 10 one-credit courses for maximum flexibility in enrollment choice. You can put together three or four courses that are most pertinent to your needs or enroll in all ten. A self-designed capstone experience will be the final offering and could be part of your thesis research, an international experience, an extended research project involving industry or other experiences that synthesize the theories and content presented in the ten courses. The options are unlimited.

Our goal for the project and its participants is to develop social actions that each participant can apply in her or his own sphere of influence—teaching, design, buying, sourcing, production. In this way we can multiply the effect of our efforts to transform the apparel industry toward social responsibility. It is the right thing to do and we in the field are the best people to accelerate the movement.
