Description of the UD Certificate program

The coursework in this program is currently available to students at the University of Delaware, Cornell University, and Colorado State University. Students from all three universities are enrolled and interact together in the courses and the professor for each course is drawn from one of the three universities. Interested UD students are encouraged to apply for the graduate certificate in Socially Responsible and Sustainable Apparel Business. Students choose between a Labor or Environment track. A set of seven core courses are taken by all students and two specialized courses are taken for each selected track.  If students wish, they may pursue both tracks by taking all four specialized courses in addition to the seven core courses. For more information about the certificate, please visit the University of Delaware's Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies.

If space is available, UD graduate students may take up to three of the courses without applying for the certificate. Seats may also be available for advanced undergraduates wishing to take one to three of the courses. Please contact Dr. Marsha Dickson to inquire about availability and for permission to enroll.
How to apply for the graduate certificate

Current UD graduate students wishing to complete the graduate certificate along with another degree program apply by completing an application form available from the Fashion and Apparel Studies Department and submitting responses to the following essay questions:
  • What are your interests and objectives and how does pursuing the graduate certificate in socially responsible and sustainable apparel business relate to them?
  • Are you selecting the Labor or Environment track?
  • What experience, if any, have you had in the apparel, textile, or footwear industries?
  • Are there any special circumstances related to your academic record that you feel we should know about?
Upon notification of being admitted into the graduate certificate program, UD students complete a change of classification form.

Applications are accepted year round, but students wanting to begin the certificate program in the fall semester should apply no later than July 1.  Students wanting to begin in the spring semester should apply no later than January 1.
