The impact
of an exploding world population has enlarged the need for
persons trained in agricultural sciences, engineering, and
economics. Agriculturalists are exploring ways of efficiently
producing enough food for the people of the world without
depleting natural resources. The undergraduate major in agricultural
and natural resources is not centered in any one department
but includes courses in agricultural engineering, food and
resource economics, entomology and applied ecology, plant
science, animal science, and agricultural biochemistry.
The occupational
outlook for most professional jobs in the field of agriculture
will continue to improve as technological advances increase
the need for college-trained personnel. For the student who
plans to join a family agricultural business or become a farmer,
this degree will provide information in the latest technological
advances to increase production, protect the environment,
promote effective land use, and improve farm organization
and management.
