HISTORY
Bachelor of Arts

The study of history allows us to recognize and analyze the complexity of the changing forces that have created our world today. History helps us to understand human events and accomplishments, including the rise and fall of civilizations, the roots of cultural differences, and the evolution of science and technology. The study of history develops our abilities to understand, organize, and express complex changes in society, the economy, and government. These skills are valued by employers in public administration, business, law, and journalism. History also prepares students for secondary school social studies teaching, library studies management, archival management, and museum studies. The department is particularly strong in the preparation of social studies teachers and in museum studies. The department offers courses in medieval and modern European history; American history; and ancient, Latin American, and Far Eastern history.
