Leading the Journey to Process Excellence – Champions Seminar

This seminar is designed to give senior managers enough knowledge of process improvement techniques to promote process improvement efforts in the units that they lead, but not to lead an actual process improvement team as a Green Belt. The seminar has four parts: 1) Leading the process improvement journey; 2) Tools to achieve process excellence; 3) Partnering with others to achieve excellence; 4) Ensuring success to sustain the journey.

Process Improvement Fundamentals

This seminar provides participants with the knowledge and skills to improve organizational procedures and effectiveness by focusing on the fundamental techniques of process improvement, such as the 5 S’s of an efficient workplace, value stream management and Lean Kaizan techniques. Specifically, the seminar teaches participants the DARE technique – Define problems/opportunities, Assess and analyze current process, Recommend solutions and Ensure improvements. The D.A.R.E. process:

Define problems/opportunities

  • Identify the people involved in or directly affected by the process
  • Identify customer (stakeholders/process partners) requirements
  • SIPOC (Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customer)
  • Evaluate current state of process

Assess and analyze current process

  • Identify the root cause of the problem versus the symptoms of the problem
  • Focus on process, not people or symptoms
  • Identify process outputs
  • Identify significant inputs and isolate root cause(s)
  • Confirm root cause(s) were identified

Recommend solutions

  • Brainstorm Solutions
  • Select Solution
  • Implement Solution
  • Make sure the solution avoids negative impact on other processes
  • Select the best solution within university business constraints

Ensure improvements

  • Ensure the process allows your job to be 100% repeatable, 100% of the time
  • Eliminate possibility and consequence of errors
  • Brainstorm Mistake Proofing Solutions
  • Implement and Monitor
