Planning for the 2027 Governor’s School for Excellence is underway. Updated dates, deadlines and application information will be published when finalized. The timeline below provides an overview of the typical annual schedule and is intended for planning purposes only.

Academic Program

Fall

  • Students begin the application process.
  • Students request teacher letters of recommendation.
  • Schools collect applications and supporting materials.
  • Schools review submissions and identify academic finalists.
  • Registration information is distributed to selected students.

Spring

  • Academic finalists complete program registration.
  • Schools submit required program documentation.
  • Students and families receive program updates and welcome information.
  • Participants prepare for the summer program.
  • Governor’s School for Excellence takes place in July.

Visual and Performing Arts Program

Fall

  • Students prepare application materials through their school.
  • Schools nominate students for visual and performing arts disciplines.
  • Registration information is distributed to nominees.

Spring

  • Students complete audition registration and other required submissions.
  • Audition information is shared with students and families.
  • Performing arts auditions are conducted.
  • Visual arts portfolios and related materials are submitted for review.
  • Admission decisions are communicated to students.
  • Participants receive program information and preparatory materials.
  • Governor’s School for Excellence takes place in July.
